Bio

I am a licensed massage therapist and certified Pilates & Yoga instructor with 17 years of professional therapeutic movement and massage experience.

I began my study of movement and the human body in the fine arts. Figure drawing and painting lead me to schools in London, Germany, and Barcelona. In 2001 I began a deeper study of anatomy and movement therapies at The Massage Institute of Memphis. The next year, 2002, I began full comprehensive Pilates certification through Ellie Herman Pilates Studios.

Pilates is an empowering method of body- awareness and deeply strengthening all of the joints in the body. I felt so fantastic and inspired by the practice that I then embarked on 100hrs of Om Yoga teacher training at Midtown Yoga and a 200hr yoga TT with Variyoga in Fayetteville, Arkansas. In Arkansas, I also studied advanced massage therapy for chronic pain as an intern with a physical therapist, Joseph Reagan, MSPT.  In 2008 I moved to San Luis Obispo, California and completed a year-long certification in the Gyrotonic Expansion System® Level 1 apprenticeship. The following year I took a full-time position at a Pilates Studio in San José, Costa Rica.  Upon returning to the US, I began working for The New Ballet Ensemble in Memphis, TN. At NBE I had the pleasure of expanding my practice while working with professional dancers and students. I am looking excitedly forward to sharing my diverse movement therapy training with Sundara's team of professionals. It is a great honor to be a part of this pioneering evolution in collaborative health and fitness in the Memphis community!

Drawing from diverse disciplines and cultures, I hope to enliven those who join me for a movement session. Encouraging folks to build a deeper awareness of their bodies. We explore communication with the whole body and exercise with the goal of increasing the quality of breath, maintaining a fun challenge for all levels, and a deeper connection to strength!
